Shabbat Shalom Rhode Island,

This evening, as we welcome Shabbat and Sukkot, we embrace a festival that calls us to rejoice. Once among the most significant communal celebrations in Jewish life, it draws us beyond our routines and toward what matters most: time, relationships, values, faith, and our enduring peoplehood. 

The sukkah reminds us that circumstances shift and difficult seasons come, yet strong communities endure. Our people have weathered generations of change through shared purpose, mutual care, and steadfast principles. 

This message feels especially important amid deep divisions within our own circles and the wider world. Too often, we avoid necessary conversations or let the loudest voices set our path forward. Sukkot offers another way: caring for neighbors, listening with courage, and seeking common purpose. The Jewish Alliance strives to embody these ideals throughout Rhode Island. 

This Sukkot, I hope we each can reflect on what unites our people and brings fulfillment here and around the world. We need not agree on everything to treat one another with care, stay connected, and celebrate together. By listening to and learning from one another, we can build a thriving community where everyone belongs. May this festival help us choose joy over anger, curiosity over certainty, and connection over division.
