Dance Dance Evolution! A Mind/Body Workshop Series

Delve Deeper: Yiddish Folklore & Culture
We will examine the linguistic and cultural origins of Yiddish; explore Yiddish folklore, including stories, songs, curses, magic and religious rituals and objects; and delve into great literary works that draw on the rich folkloric tradition of Yiddish, including short stories by I. L. Peretz and Isaac Bashevis Singer.
No prior acquaintance with Yiddish is required.

Delve Deeper is an adult education initiative that brings dynamic teachers to present in-depth, university-level Judaic courses to a diverse group of adult learners.

About the instructor: Natan M. Meir is the Lorry I Lokey Professor of Judaic Studies and Academic Director of the Harold Schnitzer Family Program in Judaic Studies at Portland State University, Portland, Oregon.
Delve Deeper programs are presented in cooperation with the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island and area synagogues including: Congregation Beth Shalom, Temple Beth-El, Temple Emanu-El, Temple Habonim, Temple Sinai, and Temple Torat Yisrael. Financial support is provided by the Joseph and Jacqueline Teverow Memorial Fund at the Jewish Federation Foundation of Greater Rhode Island.
Intro to Tai Chi
This 8-week series is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels. This class will guide you through a series of functional movements designed to improve your balance, coordination, body awareness, breathing, posture, and overall well-being.
No experience necessary.

About the instructor: Al Tringali started Tai Chi Chuan in 1970 with Master Tung Fu Ling and trained with him for 5 years, later becoming one of his assistants. After that Al trained with Andrew Lum from 1975 until the early 2020’s and became Andrew’s assistant as well. He’s excited to bring his knowledge and skills to the JCC!
Pottery with Sally
This 10-session course is about hand building with clay. We will explore the pinch, coil, and slab techniques to create exciting forms and realize great ideas in three dimensions. We’ll learn some of the rules that clay demands, and then we’ll see what happens when we dare to break them!

About the instructor: For more than 50 years, Sally Merino has practiced her art through clay, as a potter. Over the years she taught ceramics to both children and adults, in schools and colleges. She looks forward to sharing her joy and her knowledge in teaching others about this simple yet amazing material from the earth: clay.
Writing Community
This class welcomes all writers, at any level, to come together to form a supportive community that provides writing inspiration and motivation. The teacher will provide lessons, guidance, and creative writing prompts to help all writers find their voice, allowing time for focused writing, optional group sharing, and one-on-one consultation.
Examples of lessons include: Methods of the Writing Process: pre-writing, brainstorming, theme, voice, and editing; Letter-writing: a lost art reclaimed; and Creative Non-fiction: personal story-telling with pizazz.
