When school is out, J-Space is the place to be!

J-Space Afterschool is a licensed enrichment program of the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island offered at the Dwares JCC for children in grades K-5. Our goal is to provide children with a safe and nurturing environment focused on academics, social skills, sports, arts, and fun! This year, we have an exciting line-up with different offerings each day to provide kids with a full schedule of opportunities. 

Transition Care 
Ages: 5 – 11  
Transition Care is a flexible after-school option to complement our enrichment classes offered at the Dwares JCC.  Student must either be signed up for a class offered below or swim team. We will meet your child at the bus stop or in the lobby.  From there they will enjoy a healthy snack and quiet activities before being escorted to their class.  We will then pick up your child from the class for continued activities until a parent is able to arrive.  Transition Care is not available on days when classes do not meet.

Science Explorers: Kitchen Experiments
Grades K-3 

Cook up some delicious experiments in the Exploration Studios kitchen! From apple oxidation and edible geodes to baked ice cream and edible slime, Science Explorers will develop their five senses and have a ton of fun measuring, mixing, shaping, and sampling their kitchen experiments!

S.T.E.M. Explorers: Stop Motion Animation
Grades K-3

Spark kids’ imaginations in this Stop Motion Animation Adventure from Exploration Studios Young creators will dive into the magical world of storytelling as they build characters and sets using Play-Doh, LEGOs, found objects, and anything else they can dream up. Each week, kids will explore how technology brings their ideas to life—learning to use stop-motion apps, cameras, and simple editing tools to turn tiny movements into movie magic.

Through hands-on guidance, students will design their own storyboards, experiment with animation techniques, and work together to create short films bursting with creativity. From brainstorming wild ideas to celebrating their final mini-movies, this program transforms imagination into motion—one frame at a time!

Art Explorers: Pottery
Grades K-3

Art Explorers is back with a bit of a twist...! The beloved program from Exploration Studios is taking a deep dive into hand-built ceramics! Each week our Art Explorers will be inspired by a new artist and utilize various assembly methods to generate their own special ceramic pieces. Through tactile, play-based methods, we will focus on the foundational techniques of coil, slab building, and pinch pots to grow our clay-making confidence, fine motor skills, and understanding of three-dimensional forms. From creating animals and textured tiles to building mugs and coil vessels, Art Explorers will engage with their world in a creative and meaningful way. At the end of the session, each child will go home with a portfolio of pieces they feel proud to share with their family and friends.

Schmooze and Swim  
K-5

End your week socializing with friends. Children will have a healthy snack, enjoy quiet activities and splash in the pool.  We will swim from 3:15 to 4:00pm.
