Shabbat Shalom Rhode Island,
Three weeks on the job and into my listening tour, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with hundreds of you—from fitness class regulars to board members, generous donors to partner agency leaders, and so many dedicated professionals.
One meeting touched me deeply. I spoke with a newly engaged woman who didn't grow up with traditional Jewish milestones like camp, a Bat Mitzvah, or Birthright trip to Israel. However, as she began planning her future family, the state of the world and rising antisemitism made her seek out Jewish community. A neighbor suggested that she participate in our Young Adult Leadership Development program, and through it, she found a community and developed a passion for making the world a better place with the Alliance.
Her story reflects what so many of you have shared:
- A longing for joy: A desire to celebrate our traditions, heritage, and culture together through expanded learning and vibrant community life.
- Resilience in challenging times: An understanding that while the world can feel daunting, leaning into our community with our time, talent, and heart is how we thrive.
- A desire to connect: A wish to expand education that fosters understanding—both within our own Jewish community and alongside our broader neighbors.
Above all, I have heard a deep yearning for a safe, meaningful, and joyful Jewish life—one that welcomes everyone and flourishes as part of the broader community. This is what I also want and why I love doing this work.
