While we can’t speculate on the specific reasons behind the superintendent's decision to resign, we remain focused on what matters most: that Smithfield schools become a place where Jewish students and all students feel safe, valued, and protected from bias and harassment.
The Jewish Alliance has been deeply engaged with the Smithfield community following the serious antisemitic hazing incident that came to light in October. Throughout this period, we have advocated consistently for accountability, transparency, and meaningful action to address antisemitism and ensure the safety of all students.
Moving forward, we hope to work constructively with district leadership—both interim and permanent—to ensure that robust policies, training, and accountability measures are implemented to prevent future incidents of antisemitism and hate. Our community deserves nothing less than a school environment committed to these principles.
We stand ready to support the Smithfield community in this important work.
