The Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island was horrified to hear of the shooting of three Palestinian students in Burlington, VT over the weekend. When acts of senseless violence occur, it is more important than ever to recommit together to our values of tikkun olam (repairing the world) and hineni (standing with others so no one stands alone) in the face of hate, including virulent antisemitism and islamophobia. Just as we wish for our own community, Muslims, too, deserve to live in peace and security, without threat of violence. We pray for a speedy recovery for Hisham Awartani, Tahseen Ali Ahmad, and Kinnan Abdalhamid, and we hope to move forward towards peace and safety for all.
