We are shocked, heartbroken, and outraged by the reported car-ramming and shooting incident at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan.
A synagogue is meant to be a sanctuary — a place for prayer, community, and Jewish life. The fact that any Jewish community must confront violence or fear in such a sacred space is deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
Our hearts are with the clergy, staff, congregants, and the entire community as they face the fear and shock of this moment. We stand with them in solidarity and in shared determination that Jewish life must continue openly and proudly.
At the same time, we are profoundly grateful to learn that, according to local authorities, there are no known injuries or deaths. We are thankful for the swift response of law enforcement and for the safety of those who were present.
We remain committed to supporting our local Jewish community who may be affected and confronting hate and antisemitism in all forms.
