In light of recent events, we want to take a moment to reassure you that the Jewish Alliance takes the safety and security of our members, staff, visitors, and the broader community extremely seriously.
The Dwares JCC is a secure building. As a reminder, we strongly encourage all members to scan in using their JCC ID, key fob, or the facial recognition scanners located at the front and rear entrances. We also kindly ask that you please do not hold the door for anyone entering behind you.
All non-members visiting the building will be asked to stop at the front desk and present a government-issued ID before proceeding to their destination.
Signage with these reminders is clearly posted at each entrance.
We remain in regular contact with local and state law enforcement—this is true every day, and especially during times of heightened awareness. You may notice an increased police presence and/or additional patrols near Jewish agencies, schools, and synagogues. These measures are being taken out of an abundance of caution and are not the result of any specific threat to the local Jewish or Providence communities. Our security director and external security partners will also be more visible throughout the building.
Until further notice, all visitors must enter the building through the rear entrance after 5:00pm, accessible from the back parking lot. The front entrance on Elmgrove Avenue will be closed at that time and used as an exit only.
These measures are in place to protect our community, and we truly appreciate your cooperation and understanding. We are grateful to Napoleon Brito, our Manager of Community Security, for supporting our staff and the wider Jewish community. If you have concerns about anything outlined above, please contact Stephanie Hague.
We recognize that the past 48 hours have been very difficult for many of us. As always, our partners at Jewish Collaborative Services have counselors available should you need to speak with someone. You can reach them at (401) 331-1244.
We are taking these steps thoughtfully and proactively so that our community can continue to gather, connect, and feel supported in a safe and caring environment.
