So what is Shabbaton?

Learn more about this year’s Shabbaton!

My name is Matthew Fleischmann, I have been a stakeholder of (401)j for about two years now, and the connections and community built through this group have been incredible.

So what is Shabbaton?

Part of my experience was attending the first Shabbaton last year, held at Camp JORI. So what is Shabbaton? In simple terms, it’s an all-Jewish excursion that focuses on team building, community connection, and Jewish conversation, amongst others, fostered by engaging in Jewish-centered activities. This may include discussion, games, or simply hanging out with friends around a campfire roasting marshmallows and listening to music.

Attending is a wonderful way to build friendships, learn, and escape the everyday hustle and bustle of city life. This year, we hope to expand the experience by involving more people and by the types of experiences to be remembered. While the prospect of spending a weekend focusing on Judaism may seem intimidating or overbearing, it will bring you closer to the culture and religion, to yourself, and to those around you. I hope to see you there!
