As the new year kicks-off, so too does the Alliance’s Annual Campaign, and I wanted to share how humbled and grateful I am for the generosity of our greater Rhode Island community. Over the last few weeks, I have witnessed first-hand the spirit of giving that exists throughout the state. In mid-September, our Board of Directors had its first meeting hosted by our chair, Mitzi Berkelhammer. At that meeting, we raised more than $177,000 for our Annual Campaign. A few days later, the community came together for Super Sunday and with the help of more than 80 volunteers, we raised an additional $83,911 to support Jewish community here in Rhode Island and around the world. I want to especially thank the Bazarsky family whose matching gift helped us surpass last year’s Super Sunday total. That was just the beginning. During the past few weeks, your contributions have continued to come in, and our campaign now stands at $396,974 — about 13% to our goal of $3.1 million.
Together, these contributions have a significant impact on our community. It means that seniors have access to Kosher meals through Meals-on-Wheels and the Kosher Senior Café. It means that children can have meaningful Jewish experiences through day and overnight camp. It means those in need have access to the support that will lift them out of crisis and put them on a path to stability. In short, your contributions ensure a strong, vibrant, Jewish community throughout greater Rhode Island and around the world.
This year, to celebrate those who have contributed to the campaign, and to encourage others to give, we will gather together on Sunday, October 28 at 7:00pm at the Dwares JCC for our Annual Campaign event. This year’s speaker is Mohammed Al Samawi, author of the gripping memoir The Fox Hunt, which will soon be a major motion picture. The Fox Hunt chronicles Al Samawi’s escape from Yemen with the support of a small group of Jewish, Israeli, and American activists through social media. The book is a page-turner, and having heard Mohammed speak last year, I can tell you that you won’t want to miss it. Click here for more information and to save your seat.
If you would like to contribute to the annual campaign today, we’ve made it easy to do so. You can follow this link, or text the word “Alliance” to 74121. Thank you for your generosity, and for your continued commitment to our community.
Wishing you a peaceful Shabbat and a Chag Sameach!
