There’s no better indicator that it’s summertime in Rhode Island than seeing the Dwares JCC filled with Summer J-Campers.
As a parent and former educator, I can attest to the need for children to experience continuous learning during the summer months. Aside from working parents needing to find care for their children, the benefits of summer learning extend well into the school year. Summer camp programs provide essential skills like leadership, problem-solving, confidence building, and social engagement which are incorporated through a variety of activities, games, and experiences. Oftentimes children are having so much fun that they may not even realize they’re learning.
The success of our Summer J-Camp continues to grow and build upon itself. Through more than 30 years in operation, we’ve learned what kids need to thrive and what parents crave to make the experience an easy one. Summer J-Camp is known for things like free-swim, daily lunch and snacks, weekly field trips, and Judaic values woven throughout. Our J-Camp also offers curbside drop-off and pick-up to make parents’ lives easier and to lessen any anxiety kids may feel from a prolonged drop-off process.
And if a Jewish summer day camp experience in the city isn’t what you’re looking for, our community is lucky enough to have Camp JORI, Rhode Island’s only overnight Jewish camping experience. Located on Wordens Pond in Wakefield, JORI provides an action-packed summer for kids whether they are there for day camp or the entire summer.
Whichever camp experience best fits your family’s needs, you can be confident knowing that our community offers and supports such valuable summer learning opportunities. And let’s not forget PJ Library, another valuable program offered by our community that provides a fun way for parents and kids to spend time together, while still incorporating Jewish values, culture, and tradition through high-quality children’s books.
Wishing you a peaceful Shabbat,
Adam Greenman, President & CEO
