As any parent of school-aged children knows, this is a busy time of year. On Tuesday, we sent our girls off to kindergarten and third grade, leaving my wife and me thinking about how fast the time goes. As President and CEO of the Jewish Alliance, I am quickly learning that this time of year is very busy for us as well.
Earlier this week, we hosted a ceremony at the Rhode Island Holocaust Memorial to reveal local survivor names etched in stone. Hearing from survivors and their families first-hand was an incredibly moving and profound experience. For those who missed it, there will be another opportunity to honor survivors this Sunday evening starting at 7:15pm. The Alliance is joining WaterFire for a special gathering to reaffirm the importance of the Rhode Island Holocaust Memorial.
While it’s important for us to get out into the community and honor our past, it’s equally important that we do what is necessary to secure the future of the Rhode Island Jewish community. I invite you all to join the Alliance and representatives from Jewish agencies throughout the state at this year’s Super Sunday: September 17 from 9:00am – 1:00pm. We are looking for volunteers to join us to make calls to raise funds for this year’s Annual Campaign. Whether you can stay for an hour or all four, you’ll help us make a real difference in the lives of many both locally and globally.
Finally, one of the things that I have enjoyed most in my first month has been meeting people from throughout the community. Everyone has been so wonderful, and I appreciate all the stories that people have shared. I’m looking forward to meeting many more of you, and we would love to have you join us in a few weeks to celebrate the New Year. We will be hosting a Meet & Greet on Monday, September 18, from 4:00 – 6:00pm, in the lobby of the Dwares JCC. I hope you’ll make some time to stop by so we can chat over some apples and honey.
I look forward to meeting you soon and will keep you posted as we schedule additional opportunities to get together.
Wishing you a peaceful Shabbat.
President & CEO
