Shabbat Shalom: From the President 03.25.16

I simply cannot make sense of the horrendous events which are transpiring throughout the world on a daily basis. The heinous, vicious Brussels bombings constituted the latest murderous terrorist attacks that have occurred internationally. How many more innocent lives incomprehensibly will be lost or forever altered?

And just last week, someone cowardly desecrated a Brown University dormitory of predominantly Jewish and LGBTQ students.Given the rampant, unfettered hatred that is polluting our country, then why should anyone be surprised that a despicable anti-Semitic and homophobic attack would occur literally in our backyard.

I am simply disillusioned, disenchanted, and disgusted. As the late screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky so memorably wrote in his great 1976 movie Network, “Things have got to change. But first, you’ve gotta get mad!…You’ve got to say, ‘I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!’ Then we’ll figure out what to do….”

And for one of the very few times in my life, I am mad.

Shabbat Shalom,
