As the season changes, and we move from autumn to winter, the colder weather ushers in Hanukkah and the festival of lights. While gift giving is connected with Hanukkah, I want to take a moment to celebrate the amazing outpouring from this past Tuesday as part of what we called “Giving Chai Day” (or Giving Tuesday). Your generosity helped us raise more than $36,000 to support a stronger, more vibrant Jewish community. My deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed! And special thanks to the Hassenfeld Family Foundation for the generous $18,000 match that they offered as incentive. It is weeks like this that I am reminded of the strong spirit of generosity that exists here in Jewish Rhode Island.
As we approach Hanukkah–one of my favorite times of year–there are many celebrations happening throughout our community, and so much happening here at the Alliance. Whether you want to train like a Maccabee warrior, solve a puzzle to save Hanukkah, or spin the dreidel and test your luck with a Hanukkah-themed casino night–we have activities and events planned for all ages and invite you to celebrate with us!
Saturday, December 1: Vodka Latke (401)j’s annual Hanukkah celebration
Sunday, December 2: Hanukkah Escape Room
Sunday, December 2: Hope Street Winter Stroll and Menorah Lighting (lighting at 4:15pm)
Wednesday, December 5: Maccabee Boot Camp: A Family Hanukkah Celebration
Sunday, December 9: Hanukkah Escape Room
Wednesday, December 12: Israel Culture Series presents Hanukkah Casino Night
And if you are in Providence’s Hope Street area this Sunday, stop by the Winter Stroll and join my family and me for the lighting of the menorah (and a special visit from the “Human Dreidel!”).
