Join us for another fun-filled Day at the J! This round we will have a Scholastic Book Fair, pool time, exercise classes, a special program for grandparents, a jumpy house, Krav Maga, and an art discussion. Some programs require preregistration and links are available in the descriptions below.

Calling all bubbies, zaydes, savtas, sabas, grandmas, grandpas, and grandfriends! Come enjoy a special grandparent/grandfriend/grandkids program with your PJ Library friends. Enjoy breakfast treats, stories featuring grandparents, and make a keepsake craft to celebrate our time together.

Did you know that research suggests that owning books helps students develop more positive attitudes toward reading? Come check out all the newest and most loved titles at our Scholastic Book Fair! There will be options for all members of your family. And your shopping will help benefit the David C. Isenberg Family Early Childhood Center, as a portion of the proceeds will help buy needed supplies for the school. It’s a win-win for everyone!

Krav Maga Seminar with EP Martial Arts: 11:00-11:30am, Studio 2 
We will provide a brief history of Krav Maga generally as well as our program and association. We will also give a brief overview of personal safety fundamentals, including how to stay safe and how and why Krav Maga enhances personal safety. There will be a short demonstration followed by a breakdown and explanation of various defenses and escapes. Finally, we will provide a short training session for interested attendees to learn some basic techniques. 

We are bringing gift certificates for interested attendees for two free weeks of training.

Art Discussion with Toba Weintraub: 12:00-1:00pm, Board Room
Ben Shahn, a graphic designer, a fine arts painter, a muralist, a writer and philosopher, has been described as a social realist and a narrative artist. We will explore the ideas behind narrative painting and then do a hands-on project connected to that theme.

Toba Weintraub, a graduate of Boston University College of Fine Arts and a master’s degree in education from Rhode College, taught Art History/Art Appreciation and Art Education at Rivier College in New Hampshire for ten years. She has given art presentations at a number of Senior Centers and residential communities throughout Rhode Island. She is also a practicing artist, painting in oils and acrylic.
