We are all shocked and saddened by yesterday’s mass shooting at Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We extend our deepest condolences to the victims of this senseless attack, to their families, and to all those affected. If anyone in our community has been personally affected by this tragedy, we offer you our deepest sympathy and support. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us — we are here to help.
Despite the timing of this tragedy taking place during the course of Shabbat, we have been working throughout the weekend with local law enforcement to make sure there are increased patrols at our local Jewish institutions.
Additionally, and in coordination with the Board of Rabbis of Greater Rhode Island, we are planning a Community-Wide Prayer & Action Vigil for Monday evening, October 29, on the steps of the Jewish Alliance, 401 Elmgrove Avenue, Providence. We invite people to begin gathering at 5:45pm, with a brief vigil led by various inter-faith leaders starting at 6pm. For those interested in taking action, the Jewish Alliance will provide opportunities to support local advocacy groups including, at this time, Refugee Dream Center and RI Coalition Against Gun Violence.
We pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and the emotional healing of the Pittsburgh community. May the memories of those who lost their lives be for a blessing.
