Daniel Chertoff’s multi-media presentation: “Palestine Posts: Episodes from the Birth of Israel,” based on his book, uses images, documents, and videos to revisit select historical events from Israel’s War of Independence.
About the book: Between 1947 and 1949, Mordecai Chertoff lived in Palestine. He worked as a news editor and war correspondent for The Palestine Post, and served as a soldier in the Haganah. In his vivid and moving letters to his family in America (annotated and contextualized by his son, Daniel), Mordecai described the news of those eventful days and the inevitable loss of his friends. His correspondence is filled with the details of everyday life in Jerusalem, as well as his meetings with famous and soon-to-be famous people.
About the author: Daniel Chertoff used to work in the investment industry. Before discovering his father’s letters, he was at Hebrew University, working on his doctoral dissertation in English Literature.
