Our J-Space After School program provides children with opportunities to have fun, learn new skills, and develop in positive and healthy ways!
Welcome to J-Space! The Eides Family J-Space After School program is a licensed enrichment program of the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island offered at the Dwares JCC. J-Space runs Monday – Friday from 2:30 – 6:00pm, and is intended for children in grades K – 5.
The mission of J-Space is to grow well-rounded life-long learners in a healthy, creative, and active environment of Jewish values. And our vision is that of a community in which children grow into outstanding citizens and problem solvers working together to make the world a better place.
J-Space is centered around experiential learning and built upon four pillars we call JAMS: Judaism, Arts, Movement, STEM
JUDAISM- As a part of the Jewish community, we instill values of:
- Tzedakah: upholding the Jewish traditions of righteous giving and justice.
- Tikkun Olam: repairing the world
- Torah: pursuing knowledge and lifelong learning
- Hineni: standing with others so no one stands alone
- Dor l’dor: securing a future filled with Jewish tradition and heritage
- Klal Yisrael: supporting worldwide Judaism and the State of Israel
ARTS- Nurturing creativity, our activities include culinary, music, literature, visual, and graphic arts
MOVEMENT- Children today are experiencing record levels of poor health, and we want to help fix that. J-Space gets kids moving through sports, games, and fitness
STEM- We aim to create inquisitive problem solvers who value the scientific method
In addition, J-Space includes: homework help and reading time; a healthy snack; teambuilding; Israeli Shaliach and community service; swimming on Fridays; CATCH*: A nationally recognized program that fosters physical activity; holiday celebrations; monthly themes with group projects; special guest visitors; and guided and free play
J-Space provides children with experienced staff who respect and value the diversity of each child. We have excellent staff-to-child ratios and strive to ensure your child feels at home at J-Space.
The typical schedule is:
4:10pm: arrival — snack, homework help, reading, guided play
4:10 – 5:15pm: Structured activity (STEM, arts, movement, teambuilding, Judaism, etc..)
5:15 – 6:00pm: Guided free play and clean up.
Structured Flexibility: Parents choose from 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 days per week based on their scheduling needs. When signing up, select the specific weekdays your child will be attending. This becomes their fixed J-Space schedule— allowing us to better plan in order to provide your child with the care they need. Permanent schedule changes can be made by the month.
We offer easy transportation escorts! Buses from select Providence schools stop at the JCC (parents must fill out the Transportation Special Request Form provided by the City of Providence), and students at the Jewish Community Day School can be walked directly to the JCC at the end of the school day by our staff. Ask us about other possible transportation arrangements.
